Central Carolina Hospital and Frye Regional Medical Center Join Duke LifePoint

Brentwood, Tenn. (January 4, 2016)Duke LifePoint Healthcare today announced that it has grown its presence in North Carolina with the acquisition of Central Carolina Hospital and Frye Regional Medical Center. Central Carolina, a 137-bed hospital based in Sanford, and Frye Regional, a 355-bed hospital in Hickory, were previously owned by Tenet Healthcare Corporation. The acquisition also included 19 regional physician practices.

Fulkerson Jr., M.D., executive vice president of Duke University Health System.  “With the addition of these providers to our network, we’ve expanded Duke LifePoint’s strong presence in North Carolina to include nine hospitals across the state. We have opportunities to collaborate with Central Carolina and Frye Regional to provide enhanced services that will help make people in Sanford, Hickory and surrounding communities healthier and advance the delivery of quality healthcare throughout this region.”

As part of the acquisition, Duke LifePoint has hired all eligible Central Carolina and Frye Regional employees. It is maintaining all services provided by the hospitals.  With a continued commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care, Duke LifePoint is focused on strengthening Central Carolina and Frye Regional and ensuring that the hospitals have the resources, including medical staff, technology and equipment, to meet the changing needs of their communities into the future. Terms of the sale are not disclosed.

Duke LifePoint has a growing network of hospitals and services designed to strengthen and improve healthcare delivery. With the addition of Central Carolina and Frye Regional, the organization now operates 14 hospitals in North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

John Orgain, chair of the Frye Regional governing board, said, “Being part of Duke LifePoint’s network gives us the opportunity to grow our hospital and continue our efforts to advance healthcare services in the communities we serve and be a significant part of an effort to enhance healthcare across North Carolina.”

Duke LifePoint also owns DLP Cardiac Partners in Charlotte, NC, which offers hospital-based catheterization labs and mobile catheterization services.
